About

Tim O'Connor, Golf and Performance Coach

Tim O’Connor

This isn’t who I am, but this tells you what I do and I’ve done.

I’m a coach, writer, public speaker and workshop facilitator. The most fun thing I do is play bass in a punk band.

Through facilitating men for 25 years in the ManKind Project, researching psychology and mindfulness—and obsessing about golf most of my life—I developed a reputation as a mental performance coach.

I also coach golfers in the physical aspects of golf, from the full swing to the short game.

In the golf season, I coach at Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, and in winter at Golf House in Guelph.

For more than 10 years, along with legendary broadcaster (Humble) Howard Glassman, I have co-hosted the Swing Thoughts podcast, delivering more than 280 fun episodes on the mental side of golf.

As a professional speaker, I am currently delivering my Getting Unstuck workshop to clubs based on my latest book. I also deliver keynotes on my experiences with Moe Norman whose biography I wrote.

In the 80s, I was a music critic and interviewed David Bowie, Pink Floyd, U2, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Chrissie Hynde, Joe Strummer, Johnny Rotten and more for The Canadian Press news agency.

In the 90s as a golf writer, I covered major championships such as the Masters and U.S. Open, and interviewed many of the world’s greatest players and coaches for CBC Radio, The Financial Post daily newspaper and magazines such as SCOREGolf and Golf World. I have won five North American writing awards.

I have written five golf books, including Getting Unstuck: 7 Transformational Practices for Golf Nerds,  and The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story, the biography of the man considered the world’s greatest ball-striker and one of golf’s greatest stories.

With Todd Graves, I co-authored The Single Plane Golf Swing: Play Better Golf the Moe Norman Way.

In 2020, I was honoured with the Lorne Rubenstein Media Award and enshrined in the Golf Ontario Hall of Fame.

And … I play bass in C.I.D—a Guelph punk band that plays vintage UK punk such as The Clash, Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Buzzcocks and more. check us out.

I live in Guelph, Ontario with my wife Sandy and boxer dog Freddie. We have two sons, Corey and Sean.
