Thank you for your loving fierceness

On Remembrance Day, I am thinking about how the men in the fields, on the seas and in the air were like brothers. While waiting in a mud-filled trench or idling in a smoky dining hall, they could needle and ridicule each other out of petty jealousy or rivalry like men can do. But when the proverbial crap hit the fan, the divisions between them vanished. They were like family and they loved each other fiercely—without question or conditions.

Thanks to the men—and women—who fought so future generations could live and love freely. We stand on your shoulders.
